'25 June (Part 1) - theme: Pride Month
Madison Square Murders by C. S. Poe

Last year's pride month choice was so depressing I decided to have a happier choice this year. This book is about murder.
Our main protagonist is quirky and weird. Larkin is instantly likable although the author repeatedly tells us that the other detectives don't like him. Because he is weird? Because he is queer? I'm never quite sure.
It's a romp of a crime story and it leaves you immediately wanting to read the second book in the series. My mum picked this for me for my pride month book and it was a good read but only really tangentially pride monthish. Yes Larkin is gay, yes there is some flirtation with his co-worker Doyle and some discussion of his relationship breakup with his husband, but mostly its a good old fashioned New York Crime book. It reminds me heavily of Carol O'Connell. Even Larkin and Mallory are somewhat similar characters.
