Additional Review J - A romance for the lesbian Swifties?

Playing for Keeps by Alexandria Bellefleur

Thank you Goodreads and Harper Collins for the ARC of Playing for Keeps.

For the purpose of reading in the hot tub on vacation in Cancun with a Mimosa, this was perfect. For real life it might be too vapid. The story line was very basic but the sex scenes were super hot and the characters likable. Our love interests are the PR people of a singer and a football player - it feels like they are supposed to be Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce. A lot of me wanted more detail about them too.

All the way through this book the author kept touching on deeper topics and veering off as if she had remembered she was supposed to be writing fluff and she had been told to keep it light. I honestly wanted more about Poppy's issues with her parents? What about Rosaline's relationship with her overachieving siblings? Am I supposed to believe its magically sorted because they fall in love? The author touched on all these deeper topics but didn't fully explore them.

It felt like I went to buy an ice cream with all the toppings, but they forgot the ice cream and I got spoonful after spoonful of delicious hot fudge sauce and chocolate pieces. Even with a sweet-tooth as active as mine, there's only so much of that I can eat!

Fun writing, very readable but mostly just fluff 6/10
