Audiobook - A Gathering Of Shadows (Shades of Magic #2) - V.E.Schwab

Usually book 2 in a trilogy is the weakest, but not it this case, as this was the best of the lot.
At the beginning I was a bit confused as Lila was suddenly on a boat. In fact I wasn't even sure the first chapter was about Lila to begin with! I know some readers fine Lila a bit annoying; they say she is too juvenile and they think she tries to hard to be 'not like the other girls', but personally I think we should give her some slack - she is after all only 16 or 17 at this point and has had a hard life thus far.
Book 2 adds more characters - such as Alucard Emery, the mysterious captain of the night spire. We also get to know the royal family of red London better as well as the other countries of the red world. The lore of magic in that world is better explained in this book too.
I don't want to give away any spoilers - but this is a romp of a book which gives so much more depth to the world building started in the first book.
