Audiobook - Somewhere Beyond the Sea - T. J. Klune

I am happy to announce that book 2 is as good as book 1. It did what sequels so rarely do. It brought back favourite characters but also had an engaging new story that was not just a rehash of the first but more an extension. Well done TJ

Dedicated to his trans readers, the allegory of magical beings as trans folk is not especially subtle, but do allegories need to be?

In this book we learn more about Arthur's origin story and get a glimpse beneath the urbane exterior. We also get a great new character - David the Yeti.

Another rare achievement for TJ. A non-dysfunctional romantic relationship! Linus Baker shows how a real steadfast partner can act, how deep love can run. It's not complicated, there's no third act breakups, there's no facile drama. Linus and Arthur are on the same team at all times. Like real life for many people, the threats are from the outside.

Oh, and TJ writes comedic dialogue fantastically and really nails the absurd conversations one can have with children.

I feel so warm and fuzzy 9/10
