Audiobook - Partners in Crime (Tommy and Tuppence #2) - Agatha Christie

I was right! A few months ago, when I last read an Agatha Christie book, I proposed they would be better as audiobooks. So I put my money (or audible credit) where my mouth is and listened to this as an audiobook. It was delightful, as Hugh Fraser (the narrator) had the perfect accent for this duo. Not fully received pronunciation as Tommy and Tuppence are not upper class, but like they were trying really hard to speak 'properly'.

I read the first Tommy and Tuppence book (a secret adversary, 1922) a few years ago and it wasn't that wonderful - the writing felt a little amateurish. The second in the series, written seven years later is much better. I loved how each chapter was its own little self-contained mystery - it reminded me of reading Sherlock Holmes stories aloud with my Dad. The timeline and the characters however grow throughout the book, similar to how Sherlock and Watsons relationship evolves over time too. Christie takes it a step further and makes it clear that seven years has also passed for our couple since we last met them. I look forward to finding out how they have changed by their next book. Maybe I should space them out so I age with them.

Tuppence is great in this book, she has such personality - darting headfirst into any adventure, sometimes to her detriment. Tommy is a sweet young man but lacks the charisma and main - character energy of his wife.

I shall definitely be switching my allegiance to Agatha Christie audiobooks from now on and look forward to listening to the rest of the Tommy and Tuppence book.

Much better than No. 1. Audio is the way to go! 7/10

Staging Outcome: To the BookBox (if it hadn't come from Libby)
